Speaker: Pablo Ugalde Salas, Member of the Young Water Professionals France

2/  Presentation 1 : Managing Water Loss :  Optimizing Water Network Performance for a Water-Scarce Future
Speaker: Assia Mokssit, SUEZ
Brief:  Amid global water scarcity, managing water loss in distribution systems is a critical issue. Every year, a significant portion of water is lost before it reaches consumers. This presentation will introduce the concept of non-revenue water and outline tools to measure and identify the sources of these losses in municipal networks. We will examine the different types of water loss and their impact on both water availability and the financial sustainability of water utilities.

The presentation will focus on the actions that can be taken to reduce physical losses, such as active leak detection, pressure management, and pipeline rehabilitation. It will also cover technological advancements that support these efforts, emphasizing how data-driven solutions within comprehensive approaches can enhance water network performance. Participants will gain insight into how municipalities can implement holistic water loss management strategies, thereby contributing to global efforts to secure water resources for future generations.

3/ Presentation 2 : Europe Municipal Water Reuse: Trends, Forecasts, and Business Models
Speaker: Chloé Meyer, Bluefield Research
Brief: Water scarcity has become a pressing challenge in the face of population growth, climate change, and increasing water demand globally. Municipalities and operators are now forced to evaluate alternative supply options to ensure both current and future water needs are met. In Europe, this need has been magnified by years of drought and record-breaking temperatures. As a result, municipal wastewater reuse has gained significant attention across the region. The reuse of treated effluent is a key component of integrated approaches to challenges related to supply, infrastructure redundancy, risk mitigation, ecosystem health, and economic development. The market benefitted from a boost in 2023, through the transposition into national laws of first ever European regulation framing water reuse. This presentation will provide an overview of municipal reuse practices in Europe, exploring the current state of the market, technological advancements, regulatory frameworks, and growth forecasts. Different business models and their implications will be identified through the review of case studies and value creation frameworks.
