The Astee working group for the rehabilitation of pipelines published in 2014 a calculation method for gravity pipe liners, known as 3R2014. This method was subsequently improved and republished in MOP 145 by the ASCE in the United States. Based on this success, the working group decided to develop a dimensioning method for pressure pipe liners, utilizing the latest research and experiments conducted primarily in Canada at Queen’s University. This new method adheres to the principles of limit state calculation, also known as Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD).

The method involves the verification of eight limit states, which represent possible modes of failure. During the webinar, we will present these limit states, three of which specifically address the longitudinal resistance of the liner. These include the effects of differential settlement (LS6) and seismic wave impact (LS7), which are not considered in the ASTM F1216 method. It is important to note that this new method is not based on the AWWA qualitative structural classification outlined in the M28 manual, which presents certain challenges that we will discuss in detail during the webinar, particularly how to translate them into equations.
